The theme of this congress was <b>&#8220;Energy of the future: innovative scenarios and methods of their implementation&#8221;<\/b>, dedicated to the overarching theme of the EXPO 2017.<\/p>\n<p>As an expert in solar energy, <a href=\"https:\/\/wsec.kz\/?staff=carsten-ahrens-germany\" target=\"_blank\">Prof. Dr. Carsten Ahrens<\/a> was invited to participate in the congress as chairman of the Solar Energy Group of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfeo.org\/stc_energy\/\" target=\"_blank\">WFEO Standing Technical Committee on Energy<\/a> (see e.g. the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfeo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/stc-energy\/Study_on_Solar_Energy-Lima-12-16.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Study on Solar Energy<\/a> in the WFEO website). He was member of the International Programme Committee and session moderator of Section 1 \u201cSources and Technologies of Future energy \u2013 fundamental Trends and Prospects\u201d. In this position he contributed to the advertising pre-programme with a short \u2013 and non-professional \u2013 film, which can be seen on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uyIV-Cve0ao\" target=\"_blank\">Youtube<\/a> or on <a href=\"https:\/\/wsec.kz\/?page_id=7552\" target=\"_blank\">this page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wfeo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_20170619_175150_800.jpg\" alt=\"Prof. Dr. Carsten Ahrens in the congress hall\" title=\"Prof. Dr. Carsten Ahrens in the congress hall\" width=\"660\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-16775\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"line-height:15px; margin-left:10px; font-size:90%;\">\nProf. Dr. Carsten Ahrens in the congress hall\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As invited speaker, Carsten Ahrens presented the paper \u201cThe Kazakh Future Energy Transition: how Germany can contribute\u201d tackling the Kazakh situation of having an enormous amount of solar \u2013 and wind \u2013 power in Kazakhstan all over the year and the possibilities to harvest this kind of renewable\/green\/future energies in a smart and sustainable way.<\/p>\n<p>But up to now nearly all electricity is produced by fossils, and big investments have to be taken to implement future energy capacities. The ambitious goal is a green share of more than 50% in 2050. The paper shows the necessity to involve the citizens in the transition process by education and financial interests, and not leave the development just the (former) big players in the energy\/electricity sector.<\/p>\n<p>The congress attracted many scientists and engineers from all over the world. The variety of sections was large and the level of quality was high, even if the possibility for discussions mainly was reduced to times \u201cbehind\u201d the panels.
