The International Engineering Education Forum on the Construction of Engineering Education and Engineering Capacity for the Future<\/b>, hosted by the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE<\/a>), Tsinghua University<\/a> and the International Centre for Engineering Education (ICEE<\/a>) of UNESCO<\/a> was held in Tsinghua University, China, on 22nd and 23rd May.<\/p>\n

President Jorge Spitalnik<\/a>, Vice Presidents Gong Ke<\/a> and Yashin Brijmohan<\/a> attended the opening ceremony and made speeches.<\/p>\n

At the opening ceremony, President Jorge Spitalnik pointed out that engineers should consider the social background and maintain a critical thinking ability, while implementing their professional duties. He stated that “An excellent engineer must follow certain ethical standards, with sufficient engineering knowledge and professional certification of his\/her professional abilities. These activities require the entire project certification or the joint efforts of relevant departments in the country in order to ensure the qualifications of engineering experts, to achieve a unified and high quality standard while engineers work at the world scale, and to be recognized by international organizations”<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Gong Ke, Vice president of WFEO and Chair of WFEO Committee on Engineering for Innovative Technologies (WFEO-CEIT<\/a>), presented a keynote speech entitled \u201cSustainability: Challenges for Engineering Capacity Building\u201d<\/b>. On 22nd May, at the meeting of the Executive Board and Advisory Board of ICEE, Gong Ke was appointed member of the Advisory Board of the Centre.<\/p>\n

In the Seminar entitled “Engineering capacity building for sustainable development”<\/b>, Yashin Brijmohan, Vice President of WFEO and Chair of WFEO Committee on Engineering Capacity Building (WFEO-CECB<\/a>) delivered a keynote speech on “Global Engineering Capacity Building”<\/b>, where he explained the meaning of engineering capacity and pointed out its construction path.<\/p>\n

The International Center for Engineering Education, jointly host by the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Tsinghua University, was established by UNESCO in November 2015, and officially inaugurated in June 2016. The Center aims to link engineering education in developed and developing countries, to promote cross-country, cross-cutting and cross-cultural exchanges in the fields of personnel training, technological innovation and industrial development, to help developing countries to cultivate engineering and technology talents, to promote global improvement of the engineering education quality, and to promote the fair development of education.<\/p>\n
