The WFEO Committee on Women in Engineering<\/a> in collaboration with the International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists (INWES)<\/a>, the International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure (ICSI)<\/a>, the Institution of Civil Engineers UK<\/a>, the Engineering Council of South Africa<\/a>, the Nigerian Society of Engineers<\/a>, and the Ghana Institution of Engineers<\/a>, organized the webinar \u201cResilient Women, Resilient World\u201d on 1st September 2023.

\nBackground<\/b>
\nAs we enter the last quarter of 2023, we are virtually 6 years away from the deadline of the 2030 Agenda and if the SDGs are to be achieved and to be truly sustainable, with no one being be left behind, they need to be implemented and owned by local actors in every part of the globe. Therefore, speakers who are from diverse backgrounds, from different parts of the world, spoke to the theme through the highlighted SDGs and interrogated them. All of this form a critical core for progress and the webinar aimed to further promote knowledge and thus catalyzed action. By addressing these interconnected SDGs along with Resilience of Women, we aimed to achieve holistic development and promote the creation of sustainable communities, that prioritize the well-being of individuals especially females, equity, and environmental stewardship. The discourse therefore highlights the fact that women play a crucial role in driving progress towards achieving each of those goals.<\/p>\n

The theme of the webinar contemplates a resilient world which can only be achieved by the integration of the SDG\u2019s and how a resilient woman in any color, race, tribe or social strata is the mainstay of such a world. The speakers discussed how resilient women are instrumental in driving progress across various SDGs as well as their contributions in health, education, gender equality, water and sanitation, energy, industry and infrastructure and cities.<\/p>\n

Expected outcomes<\/b>
\nThe Women in Engineering Committee, in partnership with INWES and ICSI and various Engineering institutions across the world, proposes that an integrated approach to promoting the SDGs related to health, education, gender equality, water and sanitation, energy, climate, water and sanitation, industry and cities, climate action, and cities is vital for achieving sustainable development and creating a more equitable and resilient world for all.<\/p>\n

The emphasis will be that empowering and supporting women is therefore crucial for realizing the full potential of the SDGs and building a sustainable future. By recognizing and empowering resilient women, we can accelerate progress towards achieving all the SDGs.<\/p>\n

The webinar also celebrated and disseminated examples of SDG implementation in action, with a focus on the Role of Women and Resilience (both personal and societal).<\/p>\n
