Former WFEO President Dr Marlene Kanga<\/a> was elected as a Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng)<\/a> International Fellow in September 2023.<\/p>\n

Dr Marlene Kanga<\/a>, an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to engineering, is an inspiring leader, listed among Australia\u2019s top women engineers. She was the National President of Engineers Australia<\/a> (2013) and President of WFEO (2017-2019). Leading organisations involving artificial intelligence, hydrogen software, utilities, and aviation, she contributed to hazardous industry safety regulations in Australia, now chairing the international IChemE Safety Centre (ISC)<\/a>.
\n <\/p>\n

I look forward to engaging with the Academy on matters that are priorities to both organisations \u2013 on advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals<\/b><\/div>\n

\nDr Kanga successfully proposed UNESCO\u2019s declaration of 4 March as World Engineering Day<\/a>, led the transformation of international engineering education benchmarks, and leads international programmes for diversity, inclusion and capacity building, especially in Africa.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cI am deeply honoured to be elected as an International Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. As an Honorary Fellow of IChemE and Chair of the international IChemE Safety Centre and Major Hazards Committee, I look forward to engaging with the Academy on matters that are priorities to both organisations \u2013 on advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals and advancing systematic approaches and best practices in process safety, and leading collaboration between the work of the IChemE Safety Centre (ISC) and the Academy Engineering X Programme<\/a>, for a better safer world.\u201d<\/p>\n

In joining the Fellowship, the new Fellows will lend their unique capabilities to achieving the Academy\u2019s overarching strategic goal to harness the power of engineering to create a sustainable society and an inclusive economy for all.<\/p>\n

Dr Kanga is among 73 leading figures<\/a> in the field of engineering and technology elected to the Fellowship in 2023. Nominated and elected by existing Fellows, they join a community of almost 1,700 of the world leading and most eminent engineers.<\/p>\n

The Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering<\/a> represent the UK\u2019s most eminent engineering researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, business and industry leaders. The Royal Academy is a community of some 1,700 eminent engineers on a mission to use the power of engineering to build a sustainable society and create an inclusive economy that works for everyone. There are approximately 100 international Fellows.<\/p>\n

HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was a Senior Fellow, and instrumental in founding the Academy. HRH The Princess Royal and HRH The Duke of Kent are Royal Fellows.
