The 30th Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK)<\/a> Conference took place in Mombasa between 14 and 17 November 2023 with the theme “Engineering a New World”<\/i>. The IEK also hosted the 18th General Assembly of the World Council of Civil Engineers (WCCE)<\/a> during the period. I had the opportunity to address the IEK at the Opening Session, the Closing Session and also addressed the General Assembly of the World Council of Civil Engineers.

\nInvitation to attend this conference was extended to me by the IEK in June 2023. The leaders of IEK (Engr. Nathaniel Matalanga, IEK Past President and Eric Ohaga, IEK President) were enthusiastic about my attendance so that they can claim to be the first to invite me to attend their conference as President of WFEO. They made adequate publicity within the engineering fraternity in Kenya as well as the top leadership of the country regarding my attendance at the conference. That resulted in a huge attendance of engineers at the conference which included the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya His Excellency Rigachi Gachagua and Honourable Kipchimba Murkomen, the Minister for Roads and Infrastructure.

\nMy message to the IEK delegates centered around calling on IEK and other engineering institutions to give more cooperation to WFEO in its desire to build capacity of engineers globally towards meeting the challenges of their time including but not limited to Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the need for them to participate fully in all the programs and activities of the WFEO under my tenure and beyond. At the General Assembly of the WCCE, I called on them to identify one or two UN Agencies to work closely with them with a view to providing solutions to some of their problems especially targeted at any of the SDGs.
