The first meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development 2024-2033 (IDSSD)<\/a> took place at the UNESCO HQ in Paris, on 4 September 2024.<\/p>\n

IDSSD originates from a resolution adopted in August 2023 by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)<\/a>.
\nThis resolution offers a distinctive opportunity for humankind to advance and leverage science in the pursuit of sustainable development and cultivate a new science culture\u2014to engage everyone to advance science further and equally benefit from it. <\/p>\n

Entrusted as the lead agency by the UNGA, UNESCO<\/a> is diligently formulating and disseminating a clear vision and dedicated mission for the Sciences Decade through extensive consultation with Member States, partners from other UN agencies, international scientific unions, science academies, private sectors, and NGOs. <\/p>\n

WFEO, as one of the International Originations of IDSSD, was represented by its President Mustafa Shehu<\/a> and Executive Director Jacques de M\u00e9reuil<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Executive Committee serves as the principal responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight for the Sciences Decade\u2019s implementation. It ensures that the strategic plan for the implementation of the Decade, which was presented and endorsed during the meeting, aligns with the objectives outlined in the United Nations General Assembly Resolution and oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of initiatives under the Decade. <\/p>\n

The Executive Committee was chaired by the Assistant Director General for Natural Sciences at UNESCO, Engr. Dr. Lidia Brito<\/a>.
