The Royal Academy of Engineering (UK) Engineering X Skills for Safety Programme<\/a> launched the 2nd Global Engineering Capability Review (GECR 2025)<\/a> at a global webinar event on 24 July 2025. The GECR 2025 is published as part of the Engineering X<\/a> collaboration between the Academy and Lloyd’s Register Foundation<\/a>, an initiative which aims to promote safer engineering practices globally through skills development, education, advocacy and community building.

\nThe Engineering Capability Map published in the Global Engineering Capability Review (GECR 2025)<\/i>
\n 
\nThis GECR looks beyond skills, taking a system-based approach to better understand how engineering skills, institutions, policies and investments translate into safer, higher-quality infrastructure. It highlights where engineering capacity is strong, showing a positive correlation between safety and engineering capability and where interventions could be most effective to address higher risks from unsafe practices. <\/p>\n

Taking a systems-based approach, the Review assesses engineering capacity and capability across 115 geographies. It is designed to support evidence-based decision-making and foster collaboration across government, industry, academia, and professional bodies to improve engineering outcomes and reduce harm. The framework underlying the GECR covers all sectors \u2013 government, industry, academia and the engineering profession and is relevant to all these sectors in terms of the contribution that they make to engineering capability in the nation.
